Matt is a consumer litigator with experience handling tough cases and appeals.

First as a law clerk to a federal judge, and then as a litigator at an international law firm, Matt has handled cases at the forefront of consumer protection and other complex areas of the law. His passion for consumer rights started in Roanoke, Virginia, where he grew up with working-class parents. An Eagle Scout, Matt also carries a keen sense of right and wrong, which he brings to bear when fighting for consumers.

Matt’s practice focuses on individual and class action claims against payday and predatory lenders, credit reporting bureaus, and financial institutions. Prior to joining Kelly Guzzo, Matt worked at a large law firm handling complex litigation, including serving on the winning team in a two-week federal jury trial. Matt also completed a federal clerkship for the Honorable David J. Novak of the United States District Court for the Eastern District of Virginia. While clerking, he worked on high-stakes consumer litigation cases that have since resulted in landmark settlements for consumers nationwide.

In addition to trial court experience, Matt has taken several cases to successful appeals. He enjoys tackling thorny factual and legal issues to obtain the best possible result for the firm’s clients. Matt graduated from law school with highest honors, serving on the editorial board of the William & Mary Law Review. His article published in the Law Review was selected as among the top fifteen student-authored articles in the nation. Matt brings this same passion for writing to advocate for the firm’s clients.

Since graduating law school, Matt has lived in Richmond, Virginia, with his husband, Riki, and two dogs, Elle and Baden. He enjoys being outdoors, trying new restaurants, and checking out the latest movies in theaters.
