Kelly Guzzo attorney Kristi Kelly was recently interviewed by Super Lawyers Magazine regarding the Coronavirus Aid, Relief, and Economic Security Act, or CARES Act, which was part of the federal government’s response to the COVID-19 pandemic in March 2020.
Kelly noted that many CARES Act consumer protections, such as forbearances, are still available, but consumers must take proactive steps to get relief. In many cases it’s as easy as calling the applicable creditor and asking for a forbearance.
“I can’t stress enough how important it is to know your rights under this Act,” Kelly said. It’s also critical that distressed consumers monitor their credit during this time. Current credit reports can be accessed for free once per week at annualcreditreport.com.
